Born in 1981, Spanish Sculptor Javier Murcia began his artistic journey at the University of La Laguna in the Canary Islands, immersing himself in the intricacies of fine arts and anatomy, which profoundly shaped his understanding of the human form and continues to influence his artistic expression.

In 2010, Javier's two-year stint in Copenhagen marked a pivotal phase where he contributed to private collections like Christian Lemmerz´s “Medusa sculpture” commissioned by the LEGO founders or “Circus” exhibition by Michael Kvium. Subsequently, he returned home and spent another two years on the sculpture "Homenaje al Chicharrero" commission.

In early 2013, Javier arrives to New Zealand, where he embarked on a deeply personal artistic exploration. This momentous journey brought him into contact with Sir Richard Taylor, a fateful encounter that blossomed into a strong patronage for Javier's art. Sir Richard became an avid collector of Javier's unique artworks, wholeheartedly endorsing his distinctive vision.

Building upon the essence of "Oxidations " work, Javier ventured into the creation of "Eidos" series, which made its debut in exhibitions in Europe in 2019 and New York in 2020.

During the pandemic, Javier's commitment to his craft persisted, leading to the launch of his personal project, the "Sculpture Studio by Javier Murcia" platform. This initiative established an artistic hub in Wellington, focusing on the human figure.

Presently, Javier is hard at work, crafting a new and exciting body of artwork set to be unveiled in 2023-2024.
